The Difference Between Made-to-Measure and Bespoke

The terms are often used interchangeably, but the construction process is fundamentally different. Here is what separates a bespoke garment from a made-to-measure one.
Made-to-measure adapts an existing pattern to a client’s measurements. Bespoke tailoring begins with an individual pattern drafted for one person, allowing the cutter to account for posture, balance, and proportion from the outset.
That difference continues through the fitting process. A bespoke garment evolves over several stages, giving both client and tailor the opportunity to refine its shape and character.
